Wood Gear Clocks

MADE FROM SPECIAL WOOD

From the 17th century modest prosperity was established in Graubünden thanks to long periods of peace. At that time clocks made out of iron were still very expensive. As supplementary form of income, it was during the long winter months and through pronounced craftsmanship skills of the peasants that ultimately helped give birth to the wooden gear clock.

Thanks to creativity, mathematical knowledge and the use of wood that is durable and distortion-free, the enchanting "Davos clock" was created. She was considered the benchmark until the mid-19th century and even to this day she tells us her story. Despite ever increasing rarity, we continue to find wooden gear clocks and restore them as closely as possible to their original state.
